Volume 1

50th International Eucharistic Congress: Proceedings of Plenary Sessions

The daily programme for the 50th International Eucharistic Congress included a plenary session in the main arena, which was attended by between 10,000 and 15,000 people each day.

The overall theme of the Congress was The Eucharist: Communion with Christ and With One Another. In advance of the Congress, a Theological and Pastoral Reflection on this theme was prepared by the Theology Commission of IEC2012, and it was on the basis of that reflection, which is published here, that the Pastoral preparation for the Congress and the Congress Programme itself was prepared.

Each of the days from Monday to Saturday had a specific theme related to the overall theme of the Congress, and these daily themes were reflected in the keynote addresses of the day (the homilies, catechesis and testimonies), which were presented in the main arena.

The daily themes were as follows:

Monday: Communion and Baptism

Tuesday: Communion, Marriage and Family (family day)

Wednesday: Communion and Ministry, Ordained and Lay

Thursday: Communion and Reconciliation

Friday: Communion, Suffering and Healing

Saturday: Communion in the Word, through Mary

50th International Eucharistic Congress

Selection from Concurrent Sessions

During the week of the 50th International Eucharistic Congress, a concurrent programme of more than 140 lectures and workshops and cultural events was presented by Irish and international speakers. The popularity of the programme took many people by surprise. We are happy to be able to present some of the highlights in this volume.

Among the themes addressed were: the Second Vatican Council; Marriage and Family; Priesthood, Religious Life, Lay Pastoral Ministry; Safeguarding, Justice and Development; Reconciliation; Suffering and Healing; Prayer; the Scriptures and Mary the Mother of the Word made Flesh. There were a number of specialist tracks, including one presented by the International Catholic Deaf Community.

Volume 3

50th International Eucharistic Congress

Proceedings of the International Symposium of Theology

The pre-Congress Symposium of Theology, which is a feature of every International Eucharistic Congress, was hosted in 2012 by the theology faculty of the Pontifical University of Maynooth and supported by the President of the university. The opening address was a rich overview of, and reflection on, the ecclesiology of communion given by His Eminence, Marc Cardinal Ouellet, Prefect of the Congregation for Bishops.

Particularly significant was the full day dedicated to ecumenism, with Cardinal Kurt Koch providing the keynote address. His Eminence Metropolitan Emmanuel of France, President of the Conference of European Churches, also spoke, offering Orthodox perspectives.
