Description
Penal Places, Artefacts and People in the Archdiocese of Dublin is an initiative of the Dublin Preparatory Committee of the 50th International Eucharistic Congress. In looking to the 1932 Congress, as is inevitable, we are harking back to an era of triumph for Catholicism in Ireland. Gazing back a little further to penal times, we see the outline of a more humble Catholic Church and people. This Church structure and faith community speak more poignantly to our present situation. More importantly, their story encourages us to work for renewal in the Church in the same spirit of humility and service.
This compilation of penal places, artefacts and people seeks to honour their memory. It is hoped that it will both encourage the people of the diocese to travel on local pilgrimage, and to investigate further the stories of their local faith communities.
