Description
Into the Classroom is a series of eleven new books designed for second-level teachers beginning the new Leaving Certificate Religious Education syllabus. Each of the books covers all the content in the relevant syllabus section. With their accessible and engaging commentary, they will also be of great interest to third-level students, educators and a general readership.
Willingly to School is a book which aims to help religion teachers consider how the new RE syllabus from the Department of Education and Science will affect their work. In the spirit of the guidelines published by the Bishops, it explores how teaching the state syllabus for examination can help (in an indirect way) the faith formation of Catholic pupils in second-level schools. It draws upon Devitts earlier analysis of faith education in Immortal Diamond, and shows how a careful teaching of the new syllabus can foster the eight dimensions of faith. This is the introductory volume to the series Into the Classroom, which will provide detailed commentaries for religion teachers on each of the individual sections of the proposed Leaving Certificate RE syllabus.
